Book Review: Ink and Bone by Lisa Unger

Title: Ink and Bone
Author: Lisa Unger
Synopsis:
Twenty-year-old Finley Montgomery is rarely alone. Visited by people whom others can’t see and haunted by prophetic dreams, she has never been able to control or understand the things that happen to her. When Finley’s abilities start to become too strong for her to handle – and even the roar of her motorcycle or another dazzling tattoo can’t drown out the voices – she turns to the only person she knows who can help her: her grandmother Eloise Montgomery, a renowned psychic living in The Hollows, New York.
Merri Gleason is a woman at the end of her tether after a ten-month-long search for her missing daughter, Abbey. With almost every hope exhausted, she resorts to hiring Jones Cooper, a detective who sometimes works with psychic Eloise Montgomery. Merri’s not a believer, but she’s just desperate enough to go down that road, praying that she’s not too late. Time, she knows, is running out.
As a harsh white winter moves into The Hollows, Finley and Eloise are drawn into the investigation, which proves to have much more at stake than even the fate of a missing girl. As Finley digs deeper into the town and its endless layers, she is forced to examine the past, even as she tries to look into the future. Only one thing is clear: The Hollows gets what it wants, no matter what.

Wow! This book is exactly the kind of  psychological thriller I love. It also has a paranormal aspect which is a plus for me seeing as it's one of my favorite genres.
The main character Finley has a mysterious gift. She's visited by people whom others can't see and haunted by prophetic dreams. When her powers start to get to strong for her she moves to the The Hollows with her grandmother Eloise. Eloise is a renowned psychic and Finley hopes she will be of some help controlling the "gifts" she has.
I loved the characters in this story. Finley, Rainer, Eloise, Jones.....I just loved them all. Well, except Merri and Wolf. Just too much drama with them. Divorce. Infidelity. New girlfriends. It was just too much. No thanks.
Finley is one of my favorites. From her pink and black hair and tatted up body to her firecracker, take no bullshit, attitude. She's vulnerable. She's fierce. She's kick-ass. And the romance between her and Rainer, while not a huge aspect here, was still believable and deeply poignant.
The writing is superb and keeps you on your feet with twists and turns. It's intense. It's creepy. It will give you chills. It will definitely keep you turning the pages because you have to know what's going to happen next.
This is my first book by Lisa Unger and I can safely say I absolutely loved it and her writing. I will be going back for more books of hers and I will be recommending her to others.

I received a copy from Net Galley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. I have no affiliation with the publisher or author.
